NO PLAY AT MELBOURNE
CRITICAL VETERANS
MELBOURNE, 6th February. An inch of rain fell overnight, and light showers in the morning. The South African and Victorian captains made several inspections, but decided at 3 o'clock that there would be no play in the cricket match to-day. The wicket, which had been covered, ■was in good order, but the ground near the wicket was very soft. Several old internationals, however, were strongly of opinion, after inspecting the ground, that play should have started by 3.30 p.m. One old Test player declared: "Australia is developing into a race of lolly cricketers."
The loss of Saturday's gate is serious, as the Board of Control is still about £1500 short <}f the guarantee.
