During Saturday, after over a month of low pressure conditions which reached their maximum development on Friday, barometers befcamo high over Australia. The centre of disturbance has shifted from Northern Australia to the Fijl-Tongan area, where a tropical cyclone lias developed. Over New Zealand there has been, especially in the upper air, a strong drift from the south. This morning the southerlics were increasing owing- to the spread of the anti-cyclone from Australia to the South Island where, in the far south, barometer readings of over 30.4 inches were recorded. This southerly change caused scattered light rain iv the eastern districts of the South Island yesterday, vthile this morning it was raining between Kaikoura and East Cape. Other parts were experiencing fine' weather.
