-1 Ati Trentham on Saturday the Petone "Defence' Rifle Club continued its short range series and ' longfield aggregate (Rough, and .Co. Cup) with a seven-tshot match at 300, 500, and 600 yards. The weather, conditions were good, the day being .fine, with a very strong sun, causing a heavy mirage, aud ; a changeable front wind, which proved very troublesome. This favoured the experienced shots who were quite at home: under the conditions. At 300. yards W. Mclver topped the scoring with 34 out of thei possible "35, 'finishing with an inner. He was followed by; T. Warburton and R. H. Nieholl: with 33 each, and five members (J. Carter, W.^H. Ballinger, P. Stewart, A. Weir, and N. E. Solomon) with 32 each.. At ■ 500 ■ yards seven members bettered the Standard of 32.! J. Carter : was top-scorer here with a possible 35, and was heartily congratulated on his fine performance. W. Mclver again finished with, an inner for 34, and five members (R. C. Barkle, T.. Warburton, T. Kichards, W.-Johnston, and F. Jamieson) with 33 each.; At 600yds.conditions^were more troublesome, resulting, in! some unexpected crashes.: R. C. Barkle led the way here with' a good' 33, followingiby.J. Carter, T. B. 'Richards, and W. Jackson with 32 each. The outstanding aggregate for the, day off the gun was secured by; J. Carter with-the brilliant -total of 99 put of the possible 105, a great performance under the conditions... R. C.. Barkle and W. Mclver were next with 97 each. ' :■.
