It J3 certain that any scheme of rationing imports would seriously affect the drapery trade, which has had quite enough trouble to cope with lately without having further burdens thrust upon it, remarks the "New Zealand Draper," and adds that a higher exchange fate would considerably increase the cost of imported goods without retailers being in a position to recoup any of their loss from the public. Whether the trade is prepared to martyr itself for the problematical ultimate good of the whole country is another matter. It is hardly a reasonable sacrifice to espect.
