Sugar among imports is already taxed, which the tariff plan does nofc affect, but the Australian Press Agency; is informed that it is likely that the next Budget will contain an additional duty on foreign sugar, automatically giving Queensland and the Crown, colonies preference.
A committee representing Australia rind New Zealand meat interests has formulated a scheme combining the tariff and quota systems for imported meat. It is suggested that Britain should impose one penny per pound as duty on meat from certain foreign, countries, and a farthing per pound on. other supplies, while Dominions' meat should be allowed to enter free. Tha National Farmers' Union and other representative bodies support the plan, which later will be forwarded for consideration at the Imperial Conference at Ottawa.
