"When a farmhand at Shackleton, himself unable to swim, tried to teach a boy, both were drowned. The boy's father also lost his life, in a vain, attempt at rescue.
The victims were:—Allen Elliott (12). his father, H. Elliott (44), and L. Doegett (30);
