METROPOLITAN TROTS

SEVERAL USEFUL FIELDS

SOME HORSES IN FORM

(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.")

CHRISTCHURCH, This Day

With the possible exception of tho Midsummer Handicap,' in which only eight horses are engaged, the fields aro large for all events at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club's Summer Meeting at Addington to-morrow. The presence o£ Mr. I<\ B. MeFarlane's Melbourne team, together with a few visiting horses, will add interest to the day's racing. At this time of the year the track is in good order, and usually fast times are recorded. The principal event is the MIDSUMMEIt HANDICAP, of DOO sots; 4.30 ; class: two miles. Dillon Loiran .. Bcr. yds. Id. Mllo Mlnlo sir Pluto 12 80110 scr Jtcd Shadow .. VI yds. bd. Warplauo 24 Golden l'edro .. 12 Carmel ' ■. 72 In spite of its size the Midsummer Handicap should provide a keen contest. Kollo looks the best of the three ou the limit, as he is a good stayer who showed a lot of speed in sprint events at Forbury Park last week. The, Australian pacer, Golden Pedro, also ran well in sprints at Forbury Park, and he too is a stayer who looks to be improving. One of the hardest to beat, however, if the race is not too solidly run over the first mile, will be Red Shadow, as he possesses great brilliancy. Warplane went good races at Forbury Park, being very narrowly beaten by Regal Voyage in the Cup, and he reads better than Carmel, the winner on the second day. Summing up, if there is a slow first mile, Red Shadow looks like being successful, but if the speed is on all the way Golden Pedro and Warplane may beat him. The two-mile trotters' race is the CASHSIERE, HANDICAP, of 300 sots; -1.10 class; two miles. Great Way .... scr yds bhd yds. bd. Ukulele lady .. 36 Mountain Mist . 12 liuke Bingen ... 4S New Motford .. 24 CJuickflre 48 Eose Audo ...... 21 Cannonball .... 60 White Satin ...... 24 Huon -Voj-aga ~. 72 Boneta 3G Sir Voyage .... 108 Ambition .... 36 Stanley T 10S Fifa 36 Among those who will be supported in (he Cashmere Handicap are Great AVay, Mountain Mist, White Satin, Fifa, and Ukelele Lady. Great Way looked on the improve when he last raced. Mountain Mist is reliable. White Satin, if unsuccessful in the mile and a half event, should race prominently, as she showed a lot of speed in patches in her effort over the distance at Forbury Park. Fifa is likely to go a very solid race. Ukelele Lady is in her best shape just now, and may be one of the hardest to beat. A pair who should so well are Ukelele Lady and Mountain Mist. The fast sprint is 'the CKAVEN HANDICAP, of 300 sots; 2.43 class. Muriel do Oro . scr Groat Logan ... acr Red Shadow .. scr yds. bd RoIIo scr Logan Chief ... 12 Koyal Silk .... scr Carmel 24 Free Advice ... scr Koi I'Or 24 Although there are only nine acceptors for the Craven Handicap, which will conclude the meeting, it is quite a classy field, and it may be one of the best contests of the day. If Red Shadow is successful in the Midsummer Handicap, he may. not start in this race, and Royal Silk will probably be favourite. The Auckland Cup and Wellington Gold Cup winner looks at his best at present. Muriel de Oro is a smart pacer over the distance, and her recent racing should have been beneficial. Roi lOr, who is one of the most brilliant of pacers racing, should be capable of making the best showing of those behind the limit. A pair who may be in the places are Royal Silk and Roi l'Or. Horses who are in form and who arc likely to make creditable showines in the other events are: Spreydon Handicap (for trotters): Great Nelson and Donald's braoVet (Anibition and Standby). Linwood Handicap: Sodium and Mac Dillon. Papanui Handicap: Nimble Direct and ,Grand Canyon. Juvenile Handicap: Wrecker and Eureka Boy. Liverpool Handicap: Gold Country and Anon.
