RETRACT TO REMEMBER

A horse -who will be watched in any event he contests at the Marlborough Meeting next week is the Trentham-train-ed Retract, who recently was twice' successful'and once second in three starts at the Wellington Meeting. • This big five-year-old son of Lord Quex and the lostpedigreed mare Retraction has required plenty of time; but the patience" exercised with him is now being well repaid, and it is likely that he will go on to still further success. . . . • ■ .

.At. the beginning o£ this season. Retract was still a maiden performer. He opened his. account with an easy highweight win at Mastei'ton, and scored in a similar event at Carter-ton.. In a few following races he did not show up prominently,, but. he began to work better than ever he had just prior to the Wellington Meeting, and he'was one of the most consistent performers at that fixture. \ At present he is being raced by his trainer, T. Pritchard, who holds a twelve months' lease of him, which expires on 20th April next. He has been weighted at 8.11 in the President's Handicap, one mile (top weight Cessation, 9.0), on the first day at Blenheim, and on the second day he will prSbably contest the Marlborough Cup. If he continues to do well it is possible that he will be taken across to Australia for the Easter meetings.
