The Prime Minister (the Eight Hon. G. W. Forbes) and the Minister of Education (the Hon. B, Masters) left Wellington for the South last night. Canon P. James, of St. Paul's ProCathedral, will leave AVellington this evening for the South Island. He will probably return to Wellington on Tuesday morning.
Mr. L. Brown, New Zealand publicity manager for Fox Films, will be among the passengers this evening for tha South. He intends to return to Wellington in about a week's' time.
Mr. P. Black, Director of Eeserves at Palmerstou North, and Mrs. Black, passed through Wellington to-day, after attending the Horticultural Conference at Christchurch and visiting Tiniaru.
Mr. B. A. Anderson, C.M.G., the new president of the New., Zealand Native Bird Protection Society,l was welcomed to the society at yesterday's meeting by Mr. Johannes C. Andersen.
Mr. E. A. Sevier, general manager in New Zealand for the Vacuum Oil Co., left Wellington this afternoon oa the Marama on a business visit to Australia. He intends to return to NewZealand in a fortnight.
Mr. J. A. Presha-wy for the past 20 years manager of the South British Insurance Company, Ltd., in Western. Australia, retired on 31st December and has been appointed a director of the company. Mr. Preshaw joined the company's service at Invercargill in. 1887 and served in Auckland, Napier, and Queensland before going to Western Australia. He has been, succeeded by Mr. J. L. Lapsiey. i
Mr. W. H. Denton, it was decided, at yesterday's meeting of the New Zealand Native Bird Protection Society, is to be offered the position of acting treasurer of the so.ciety, in place of Mr. E. Lawson, who has resigned. Mr. Lawson is to be thanked for his services.
Mr. J. H. Potter, who is relinquish* ing the secretaryship of the New Zealand Master Grocers' Federation, was eulogised by delegates at the conclusion of the federation's conference today. Several speakers referred to the valuable services which Mr. Potter had rendered to the federation, and expressed regret' that he was resigning frost the position. .
