THE PENALTY DATE

The City Council last evening fixed tho date on which tho 10 per cent, penalty for late payment of rates will accrue at 18th February. Ratepayers who havo not yet met their demands will be well advised not to leave payment till the last hour or so, for though arrangements have been made for the rates offico to remain open longer than usual during the last few days before the penalty is imposed, the rush, each year advised against, is fairly certain to occur again.
