HASTINGS, This Day.

In a statement commemorating today as the first- anniversary of the earthquake in Hawkes Bay, Mr. G. F. Roach, Mayor of Hastings, says: "I would like to take this opportunity of expressing in the most sincere terms possible the great, appreciation and thanks of the residents of this borough for the Dominion-wide help given to this district' 'so spontaneously and generously by sympathisers, not only in every ,part -of New' Zealand, but even:^further afield. Undoubtedly .the Press -was most helpful, in giving full and accurate reports, of the calamity, and I desire ;to- extend :to the profession my r .most grateful thanks."
