KASHMIR TROUBLES

DELHI, 2nd February.

Rebellious Moslems are terrorising south-west Kashmir, and State troops are rushing to the towns of Kotli and Poonch in, an endeavour to prevent the massacre of several hundred Hindu villagers who, driven from their homes, have sought shelter in. the towns, which are now besieged by 1000 armed insurgents.

The arrival of British and Indiori troops already has had a good effect in. Mirpur and the surrounding .districts, which are being administered temporarily ;by British officers at the request of the Maharaja of Kashmir.

The Punjab Government is taking strong measures to prevent the dis r affection crossing the border to British India, and village headmen have been, ordered to watch for agitators, also to care for refugees from Kashmir*
