"Evening Post" Photo. PREPARATORY WORK AT THE WAINUI TUNNEL.— Looking towards Gracefield and the Hutt-Day's Bay road from the location of the Hutt Valley portal of the new Wainui tunnel, the construction of which will commence shortly. The buildings on the left and at the foot of the hill are to accommodate the tunnellers during the progress of the work. On the right workmen are constructing the framework of the portal, which is to be 25ft 6in wide and 16ft. high.
