NIGHTGUARD'S PROGRESS
According to a southern report Nightguard,- the- three>year>old full-bx'other to Phar Lapj has furnished to a pronounced degree »tr a result of his spell since the N«rtv Zealand Xup Meeting, and, judging by a gallop $yfes half a mile on the outside ot the course proper on Saturday in company with Ma Belle Polly, he has developed into a freer galloper than was the case m the spring. Admittedly a disappointment to date, it may be that Nightguard has lequued more time than was earlier thought sufficient and ac he has not, been overburdened m the matter of, racing or track work, he has had e\ery opportunity lo be seen to better advantage in his later .exploits. Mr. A. Louisson deserves some leturn for his enterprise in laying- out 1300 guineas for the gelding's purchase as a \earling, and it -would be a fitting lew aid it Nighttuud should <I<s\elop into an impoitant winner.' Provided -ha continues to make good piogress lie may accompany Nightmaich to Sydney,,,and, if so, much inteiest, especially ip. Aiifctralia, -would 'bo e\inccd in him. t
