HUTT VALLEY, BAYS, BOY SCOUTS DISTRICT
The Wolfcub palaver and .welcome wliich was arranged by the Hutt Valley
and Bays Old Wolves at Wirihana in honour of Miss Nancy Wilson's return from overseas proved a great success. In the absence of the Mayor of Lower Hutt owing to illness, the Deputy-Mayor (Councillor J. Mitchell) presided. In opening, Mr. Mitchell spoke in eulogistic terms of the good work of the late Sir James and Lady Wilson, and said that Miss Nancy Wilson had proved a worthy daughter in the work she had accomplished in the interests of scouting. The Metropolitan Commissioner (Mr. H. Amos) extended to Miss Wilson, on behalf o£ the Wellington Metropolitan Area, a hearty welcome home. The Hon. Metropolitan Commissioner (Sir Alfred Robin), in the course of his remarks gave a very interesting and helpful talk on scouting generally. Mr. Vosseler (Commissioner for Wellington North) extended grateful thanks to Miss Wilson for her keen interest in providing Wirihana for a training centre, so ideal in every way, with its beautiful native bush and general surroundings. The Rev. F. S. Ramson accepted a special invitation to attend, and spoke on child psychology. Miss Wilson then gave an interesting account of her visit to Gilwell and her stay with the Chief Scout and Lady Baden Powell. During afternoon tea Miss Wilson and the Hutt Valley Old Wolves gave a demonstration'm costume of the Maori stick game, also, a short programme of songs and rounds. At the conclusion of the function Miss Webber sang in Maori a farewell, and in return the. Hutt Valley' Old Wolves, with' Miss Wilson, sang a Maori farewell song in English. Amongst those present were Mrs. J. Mitchell, Miss Holt, Mrs. Vosseler, Dr. and Mrs. Kidson, Miss Webber, Mr. and Mrs. Craig, Mrs. F. S. Ramson, Miss Edwin, Miss Levett, Mrs. H. Spooner, Mrs. C. S. M. Hopkivk, Miss Swabey (CM., Otaki), Mr. L. Callis (CM., Palmerston North), and, many Scouters and Scouts from outlying camps. Many telegrams conveyed hearty good wishes from other districts.
