GOLD OR CAPITAL?

M. Robert Masson, Director-General of the Credit Lyonnais, has affirmed; that there, is no maldistribution of gold, but there is a very unequal distribution of capital. Gold, after all, he says, is only the ultimate means of transferring capital which wants to be' transferred. If gold is concentrated in fewer centres at present than formerly, it is because capital wants to go there. No leading creditor country to-day is anxious to have more gold, nor does it- want more capital. The statement of M. Masson may be taken as giving his .reason .for France's excessive gold holdings. ..'•.•■
