FINER WOOLS IN DEMAND

Offerings at the final wool sales of the aeries were 11,008 bales, including 5112 New Zealand. About 7062 were sold. The sales closed at the highest rates for the series. Yorkshire and Germany "were very active. As compared with December closing rates, prices were mostly higher. Merinos were 5 per cent. up,, spinners 5 per cent., topmaker's sorts 7% per cent. Scoured combings were unchanged. Short pieces were 5 per cent. up. Crossbreds, fine, 5 per cent., medium and coarse and slipes were unchanged to a slight advance. io?Sfo *i? tal °* tlle sel"ies catalogued, was 128,398 bales, of which were sold to Home buyers 65,500 bales, Continent 50,000, U.S. America 1000. * There were 62,000 bales held over, of which Australian were 23,500, New Zealand approximate sales were Australian 64,000, New Zealand 46,000. ' OFFERINGS AND SALES. The following cablegram has been received from the N.Z. formers' Co-op. Distributing Company, Ltd.'s, London office, dated 2nd February, 1932:—W00l sales closed to-day, and prices compared with closing rates last series. Merino, greasy, low to medium, %d to %d dearer; inferior, par; scoured, super, par; medium, Id up; inferior, %d to Id dearer; greasy fine crossbreds, %d to %d; medium and coarse crossbreds, par; scoured fine crossbreds, Id; scoured medium crossbreds, 3id; Bcoured coarse crossbreds, %d; slipes, fine, %d to %d; shpes, medium, par to %d; slipes, coarse, par, all dearer. Market closed firm. Sales: 63,000 bales to Home trade, 50,000 bales to Continent, 1000 bales to America; total sales, 116,000 bales. A HALFPENNY RISE. New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company^ Ltd., has received the following advice from its London office, dated 2nd February:— Wool Sales: The sales closed firmly: today. As compared with last sales' closing rates, prices are higher par to %d per lb for. merino and crossbred lambs, medium crossbred slipe, and medium scoured crossbred; pieces are higher %d per lb for greasy merino, fine greasy crossbred; and fine crossbred slipe; and higher %d to Id. per lb for fine scoured crossbred. Others are unchanged. Home buyers ;are the principal operators. Competition on Continental account is active. The prices realised for average to. super grades of descriptions, as below, were as follows: Merino, super 10% dto ll%d, average B%d to 9J4d; crossbred, 56/58 lid to 13d, 50/56 9%d.t011%d, 48/50 7d to B%d, 46/48 6d Slh^ sft d, to 6y *d > iO/U 5m t0 6d ' ,36-40 5%d to 5%d. THE PRINCIPAL BUYERS. .. Messrs. Dalgety and Co. report that the lales, closed firm and active, good general competition, full attendance, good aver-age-selection. Germany and Home trade principal operators, French buyers operating on a small scale. Aa compared with clewing rates of last series, scoured merino unchanged, except for inferior and faulty, which is %d to Id higher; greasy merino par to %d, greasy halfbred %d to %d, greasy fine crossbred -"MA to %d, hoggets %d, superior medium greasy crossbred %d to Hd, greasy crossbred, other descriptions unchanged, scoured crossbred MA to Id, fine slipe par to %d, all higher; other descriptions slipe, unchanged; offered 128,398 bales, Home trade have bought ' 65,500, Continent 50,000, America' IOOQj carried forward, 23,500 Australian, 38,550 New- Zealand, of which 53,500 were not offered; total sold, 116,500. Coarse crossbred, 36-40, • good to super 5%d to 6%d, low to medium, 4%d to 5%. HOGGET WOOL WANTED. Messrs. Levin arid Co., Ltd., have received the following cable from their London agents, dated 2nd February:—"The auctions closed here to-day firm, buyers operating freely. Competition is well maintained, especially by Germany and Home trade. Prices generally show little change, but best merinos and halfbreds *>! 50/56's counts are %d to %d per lb dearer. There is an exceptional. demand for most descriptions of hoggets. Withdrawals are not very-heavy. "Te Hoe fleece wool averaged 7 l-Bd, pieces 5 l-Bd." ' The Bank of New Zealand, Produce Department, has, received. the following advice from, its London office under date 2nd February:—"The sales have : closed firm for all kinds of wooll Current quotations for wools of average condition:— Merinos, 60/64's lid to 12d per lb, ordinary 60/64's 8d to, 9d, inferior 60/64's 7d ■ to 7%d; halfbreds; 56's 10% dto ■ ll%d, 50/56's B%d to 9%d; crossbreds, 50's 7%d to 7%d, 48/50's 6%d to 7d, 46/48's 5%d to 6%d, 44/46's 5%d to 6d, 40/44's 5%d to 5%d, 36/40*s 5%d to 5%d." COMPETITION KEEN. Messrs. Miirray, Roberts, and Co., Ltd., are in receipt.;of the following wool market cablegram from their London agents, dated 2nd February:—"Sales have closed firm, competition keen. Bradford and German, buyers principal operators; French/buyers operating moderately. Compared with last London . sale's closing rates: Greasy.merino fine, and-wool suitable .for. the Continent, advanced 5 per cent; Greasy merino, other descriptions, and scoured merino, market shows no material, change. Crossbred greasy comeback, market very firm. Crossbred greasy fine advanced 5 per cent. Crossbred greasy ' medium to fine, of good lustre and breed, ■ advanced 5-10 per cent. • Crossbred greasy coarse to medium, inferior descriptions, declined a shade. Crossbred greasy coarse, and crossbred lambs greasy, market very firm/ Crossbred scoured, medium to fine, advanced -5 per cent. Crossbred scoured, other. descriptions, opening rates are barely maintained. Slipe crossbred' market shows no material change." ■ AMERICA BUYS SPARINGLY.' ; ■ Messrs. Wright, Stephenson, and Co., ' Ltd., and Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report having received cable advice from . their London house regarding the London wool slies reading, as follows:—"Wool sales dosed, average attendance of buyerg. Market continues active. Prices well ' maintain*]. Continental and Bradford buyers ■ chief operators. American buyers operating sparingly. There wast total of ' 125.000 bales offered for series to date and 116,500 'total number of bales sold for series to date. Selection good. Sliped ' price* .'2% per cent, higher. No further '-- change. Keen demand 48/50's."
