CAPE FLIGHT RECORD

MOLLISOHI TO TRY AGAIN

EXPERIENCE IN TURKEY

LONDON, Bth January. The aeronautical correspondent ' of "The Times" says that the aviator, Mr. J. A; Mollison,: has returned and will etart on Ms new attempt on the Cape record at the end of the month. He will fly non-stop to Brindisi, 1200 miles, thence non-stop to Khartoum, 1250 miles, after which he will follow the usual route, enabling him to do the journey in. 102 hours, a day inside Miss Salaman's time. Mr. Mollison says that he has 'planned the route to avoid Turkey, over which he has no wish to fly again after his recent experiences at Konia. He decided to descend there because ho became chilled, in a snowstorm and bitter winds, hoping for a comfortable night. On the contrary, he was surrounded by soldiers and marched to an hotel, where he was imprisoned in a room. He was refused food and a fire until midnight, after which he was accused of spying, because he did not possess an authorisation to fly. The authorities would not permit him. to communicate with the British Embassy at Angora for three days, and refused to protect his 'plane. Finally they permitted Mr. Mollison to go to Aleppo by train; where he obtained a permit to fly. On his return he found his 'plane stripped of instruments on the dashboard and part of the floor was torn up. He urges that it is time representations were made to the Turks to. prevent the despoiling of aviators.
