ON TRENTHAM TRACKS

THIS MORNING'S GALLOPS

RULANUT SHOWS SPEED

There'was rat-hex- more activity on' the Trcntham tracks this morning, and several interesting gallops . .were executed. The plough and the course proper were both used, the latter being a good couple of seconds to the halfmile the faster. The going was hard on the grass. Visibility, was poor. ON THE PLOUGH. Lady Pam.had made sufficient recovery from, her leg poisoning to be worked. With J. Mulvihill in the saddle, she accompanied Spear Lad (H. Johnstoue) in a round on the plough, both speeding up from the five furlongs but not being after time. Lady Pam was quite willing to stop at the end,.and trotted tenderly over another round alone. Her trainer (G. Jones) is hopeful she will be fit 'enough to start in the Wellington Cup,'and if she does L. G. Morris will ride her. Weatherstep (W. E. Shand), completely recovered from her side trouble, easily beat Moab Queen (G. F. Dick), a lazy worker," over, half a- mile in 49 3-ssec, a good gallop. Capetown (Dick) was doing his work a shade better than Foghorn (Shand) and Sailing (B. G. Bush) at the end of half a Nmilo in SOsec'."' Normandy (W. Broughton) and : Red Sun (N. S. Jones) went out to do half a mile together, but: Bed Sun threw his rider and Normandy's rider was in two minds what to do. Eventually the latter; was speeded along alone in the straight, taking 54 l-ssec for the halfmile, but doing the last couple of furlongs attractively. Marjoram (A. B. Lacassie). and -Hiss Hastings (Dick) did an easy half-mile in 53sec. It was.Marjoram's first fast 'gallop since, his return. .Clangor (J. D. Martin) and Might (J. K. Bobertson) worked easily over half a mile, taking. 40 l-ssec for the last three.furlongs. They, were kicked along over- the last furlong. Might has lately been physicked, and appears improved as the result. Autopay (G. Williams), after, his Usual ten minutes' manoeuvring, was at last got away from the ' half-mile, running the last three furlongs in 39sec. Eminent (P. W. Boxall) and Lyrical (D. W. Bush).*went easily over half a mile in 56sec. . ' . . '■' Late Jest (S. Wilson) has thrown off the .effects of the rick he gave himself at Awapuni, but was not asked to go very fast in his half-mile working gallop. ' • Bright Song (Wilson) started.behind Switch On (Broughton), and beat her companion home, at the end of five furlongs in lmin 5 2-Ssec,.jthe' last halfmile in 51 3-ssec. She was always doing it comfortably, and was not pushed out. It is- likely that she will be going to Foxton next week.' Solitaire 11. (A. Leach) ran half a mile nicely alone in 49 4-Ssec. -:Betraet (Williams)'started her off; - followed her eight or ten. lengths behind, and continued on- to the seven furlongs pOSt. - - • ;:'■' -■'.■■■■ ■ < - ON COT7RSE PROPER. . BulanutV (R E. Baker) was responsible;fdr a useful effort on the. course1 proper with" Actaeon (Johnstone). The pair started just beyond the five furlongs, Actaeon. leading past the halfmile, but Bulanut winning, the trial by a neck, in .47. l-ssee. ! , Cape Bpyal'(Baker) finished three parts of a length in front of; Vitaphone (Johnstone) at the close of half a milft in 48se'c. ■• ■; •.." Pahu (B. G. Bush) and Joie de Val (Broughton) went a mile together, Pahu, with a .distinct advantage in. the ■weights, holding the upper hand at the close. Their full time was lmin 44 4-5 sec, for the last seven furlongs lmin 31 l-ssec, and for the last half-mile 53 4-ssec. Both, are engaged in the Foxton Cup. ;...-•'■ i .. "•/ • Meritor (Wilson) started off from the six furlongs at a good half pace, running tne last three furlongs in 41 l-_sse'e, faster than! was intended. : Prince .P.ombal . (Broughton) and Lady; Rene (Ej. G. Bush) were together a length in-front of Lady Noel (Dick) at theend of half a mile in 48 3issec. Prince Pombal has improved a lot with his recent racing, and in marked contrast to earlier style was smartest of all away. The injury that, Lady Bene received at Tauherenikau turned out not to, be so_ serious as thought at frst. Cockpen (Wilson) easily beat Mullaboden (Lacassie) over half: a mile in 50 2-ssec. Muliaboden was feeling the hard.ground.. ' •.'..' • ' Several others, including Gesture; Oratorian, St. Roger, Kilstar, and Maypay, were given serviceable work. Teastream was to have galloped half a niile, but switched round and bolted the reverse way, his trainer deciding that this was. sufficient exercise for him. >. <-■ S. J. Eeid states that Historic, who is to be one of the horses kept by Mr. V. Biddiford, is apparently quite sound again, iand it-may'not be long before he is started ou another race preparation.
