MAGISTRATE'S COURT

QUARTERLY RETURNS

Over £5000 in fees and fines wa3 collected at the Magistrate's Court during the quarter which ended 31st December last. This was just under £1000 less than was collected during the corresponding quarter in 1930, and generally the figures show a decrease when compared with those for the months of October,-November, and December, 1930. Over 100 more distress warrants were issued, however, and there was also a slight increase in the amount,of civil fees collected. The complete figures for <4he quarter, with those of the corresponding quarter in 1930 in parentheses, are:— ■Number of plaints entered, 297 (3095). Total amount sued for, £55,723 Us 7d (£65,004 16s lOd). Number of cases tried, 1981 (2000). Total amount clamed in cases tried. £36,636 6s 7d (£37,600 10s 6d). Total amount recovered, £32,876 3s 6d (£33,547 6s 6d), Number of distress warrants issued, 533 (405). Number of .■judgment summonses issued, 632 (660). Number of warrants of committal issuea, 76 (81). Amount of civil fees, £3791 4s (£3745 4s 6d). Amount of criminal costs, £356 16s 6d (£462 15s 6d). Amount of fines, £1003 19s 3d (£IBBO 12s 6d). Number of criminal cases, males 1670 (1799); females, 176 (121). Included in the above are 96 cases against children in each case. %
