TOTALISATOR AND TRAINS
(To the Editor.) Sir,—Now that the Wellington Racing Club's Summer Meeting at Trentham ia drawing near, I would like to ask if th« club is going to meet the reduced spendiug power of its patrons by installing » 5s totalizator; as has been done by th« 1 rotting Association. If a 5s tote is insta led, and the railway fares reduced I ieel sure that many people who would ordinarily find the outing too expensive wou d now decide to visit the course, and much money would be invested that otherwise would be lost to the club altogether. When we find the Railway Department running Sunday and excursion trains to Faekakariki for 2» return, Otaki 3s return, Palmerston os return, Plininierton Is 6d return, and Upper Hutt Is 6d return, also race trains to Featherston 3s 6d return, surely 4s 6d return to Trentbam (6s 6d less 2s a&mission to course) seems unfair. The excursion fare to Upper Hutt, two stations beyond Irentham, is only Is 6d return, but because it is race divy we have to pay just three times that amount for the shorter distance to Trentham. The public can hardly be blamed if they take these facts into consideration and decide to go elsewhere on race days. I consider that the double reduction, that in, reduced fares and a. 5s tote, would result in a great increase in the number of people travelling ?, en ra' more than compensating for the lower charges. At any rate, it should be worth a fair trial—l am, etc., AN OCCASIONAL PUNTER.
