WEATHER FORECAST

The weather during the last two or three days has been, marked by rapid changes. On Saturday, Wellington experienced a fine day, light to moderate winds prevailing. During the night however, the wind rose, gale force being reached in the early morning. The highest gust recorded at Kelburn was 59 miles. Sundry damage was done to gardens, and at the Kilbirnio Eecreation Ground tho cricket scoring board, which had been erected by voluntary labour, was blown down. In the evening a light southerly set in and a few showers were experienced in places That which appeared in Saturday's weather chart as a slight depression in tne south Tasman Sea developed into a deep cyclone during the night, the centre crossing the middle of the South Island of New Zealand yesterday morning. This development was responsible tor the northerlies experienced on Saturday night and Sunday morning, which in Cook Strait reached gale force. The southerly change which followed the crossing of the cyclone moved gradually up the Dominion from the south during yesterday, and, only light m Wellington, occurred as a strong buster" in some places, notably Canterbury. Bain during the week-end was very widespread. In western districts of the South Island, there were some heavy falls, the rivers being rather high Arthur's Pass reported 1.85 in. Thunderstorms occurred in some places. Weather changes are very rapid just now, and by this morning, although the cyclono had passed away eastward, ;i fresh depression of the westerly type was already moving on to tho Dominion. Northerly winds again predominate over the Wellington province and in the South Island. Temperatures were low yesterday in the South Island and some snow fell on the ranges. During the week-end Auckland experienced changeable weather, light raiu falling yesterday. Christchurch had a fine, sunny day on Saturday but Sunday morning waa overcast, squally and showery. A southerly "buster" rose at 11 a.m. Thereafter the weather was changeable, with variable, but sometimes strong winds. Dunedin had dull bul fine weather on Saturday. Yesterday, however, was overcast and showery. The forecast is for moderate to strong winds, mainly from north and west! The weather is expected to be change- | able, with scattered showers in west--Icm districts, more especially in t.liu South Island and also in the far south. In the eastern districts conditions arc likely to bo for the most part fair, with [rising temperatures.
