Fine golf was played in the semi-finals of the Miramar New' Year championship by the finalists on Saturday afternoon. Silk* completed card was 71, and Black's card read the same at the sixteenth, 63, as far as he went. It was a most onjoyabla afternoon, and the group' watches and bogeys passed the time pleasantly for those who had dropped but of the championship. The course was in wonderful order for the time of year. The following are the re&ults of Saturday afternoon's play:— CHAMPIONSHIP, Semi-Kinals. B. M. Silk beat J. H. Drake, 4 and 3. H. A. Black beat D. O. Whyte, 3 and 2. . bilk, putting up the best completed card m the tournament, disposed of Drake, leading all the way. Silk won the first in i. Drake sank a long putt to halve the next, in 4. Drake Equaled the game at the third with a pretty approach-and a shor., putt for 4. Silk took the fourth in 3, Drake missing a putt. • The fifth was halved in pretty 4's, and the with in 3's. Here Drake duffed his mashie shot, and was wide with the next, but sank a fifteenfooter for his half. The seventh was halved m S's. Silk drove the green at the eighth, while Drake hooked into the rough below the ninth-tee,-and was ,too strong with his approach, Silk taking the hole in 3. Silk won the ninth in 4, and was 3 up, having gone out in 35. Diake was short with his second at the tenth, short with his third, and missed a shoit putt tor a 5, Silk increasing his lead to 4 up with a natty 4. The eleventh was halved in 4's. At the twelfth, Silk laid liim&elf a stymie from the back of the green, but took his niblick and lofted beau* tiiully the ball tuning straight into tha hole four feet away. Drake's approach hit the cup but did not stop, and 4he hole was halved m 3's. .The thirteenth W«- it m 4S ' D. rake's a PProach again hitting the cup. A few more rolls, and Drake would have had to pay the penalty for a hole m one at the fourteenth, where iie perfunctorily tapped his ball in for 2, and reduced his leeway to' 3 down. Drake left himself a three-foot putt across th« slope to halve, and missed it, Silk taking ' the hole in 4, and the match, 4 and 3. Silk - played very fine golf all through, getting fane shots into the wind, and low irons with a trace of draw, while his mashia work was very accurate. His completed card read: 445343534-35; 543434544-36. Drake was 39 out and 37 back Whyte started off disastrously with three 5 s against Black, who took 4's for the first three holes. The fourth was halved in 3 Whyte took the fifth in a pretty 3.
