The death" has occurred in Auckland of Mr. James Braund, of Devonport, who was well known in boating circles in the city and an early Auckland representativo Rugby player, telegraphs;' "The Post's" Auckland -correspondent. Mr. Braund, .who was the eldest'son of the lato Captain JV Braund,. was a prominent member of the Ponsonby Rugby Club and :i contemporary of K. Whiteside and J. Arneil. .He represented Auckland as a full back in 188$and ISS7, and then retired from Rugby for some time on account of. injury to_ his knee. ' His brother, Alby, cap 4 tamed Auckland for many years, retir-. ing after the famous match with Welt ilington in 1897.
Sir Percy A. Harris, Liberal M.P., and formerly chairman of the London County Council, who figures as one of the new baronets in the New Year Hon* ours, is well known in the Dominion, being a director in London of the New Zealand firm of Bing, Harris, and Co., Ltd., warehousemen. Born, in 1876, ho is the second son of the late Mr. Wolf Harris, and was educated at Harrow, and Trinity Hall,:. Cambridge,where he graduated- with honours- in/ History in 1897.. He was called to the Bar two years later. He has travelled round the world three times, and lived' for three years in New Zealand. He started the- Volunteer Training Corps in August, 1914, and was appointed by, the Army Council on s_pecial command .to organise- -volunteer corps. .'^He" is honorary- secretary of-the QeitEa-l-'AB-: sociation Volunteer Regiments, and the author ol several publications. - He was elected to the House .of -Commons in 1922, and in October lasV was returned with a majority of over 10,000. His two sons, Messrs. Jack' and Nicho* las Harris, are now in New- Zealand touring the North. Island,, and -his. brother, Mr. Leslie Harris, is at present visiting Wellington. ■■' ; : •.
