R.S.A. ACTIVITIES
The impression with some people Is t'Sat the Returned Soldiers' Association. is a social club. It was pointed out to-day that it is not a social club but an association formed entirely for the carrying out; ofgood works in the way of benevolence' and the creation of employment. The. Wellington Returned Soldiers' Association believes in fostering comradeship, but it is a comradeship of mutual help rmd assistance. Moreover, a large proportion of the help given is towards ''Diggers" who are not members of the association, for "in. recent months about' 90 per. cent, of' the" cases assisted^ were "Diggers" outside 'the"inner circle of the association. The association's last annual'report discloses many interesting figures. Benevolence accounted for over £2000; over £5000 was-expended-on-wages lor unemployed •■'Diggers'? engaged in useful work. This, amount included subsidies. The benevolent funds- expenditure, includes the payment of rent; unemployment levies, giving of orders '".for food, clothing, coals, and accommodation.'' In addition to these good -works,'attention'is-, given to'the welfare o£ the • ex-service j patients in the Hospital .and. at Porirua,.Mental Hospital in. particular.
