NEW YEAR'S EVE

PARTY AT TE MARUA

Glittering fairy lights hanging among the trees and lighting up the garden paths added to tho festive appearance of Mrs. Knox Gilmer's house at Tc Marua,' Upper Hutt, on New Year's Eve, when nearly two hundred guests arrived to "dance in" the New Year. Tho party had been organised by Miss Betty Herbert and Mr. Alan Bichardson, and the guests included visitors from many parts of the Wairarapa. The log cabin at the foot of the garden was used for supper, and dancing took place in the large drawing-room of the house. At twelve o'clock rockets were let off, and all the tirnc-honoured songs were sung. Mrs. Knox Gilmer wore a frock of black and gold lace, with a .oatce. Miss Mary Knox Gilmcr was in delphinium blue georgette, and Miss Jean Knox Gilmer wore a frock of magnolia satin. Miss Betty Herbert's dainty frock, was of parchment chiffon.
