.Two constables gave evidence that Jefferd had been found sleeping in the railway station and on various seats about the city. He did not appear to have any means of support, but said that he was living in the Working Men's Home in Bufckle street. When inquiries were made, however, it was found that he. had not been there for some time.,. '
, • Mr. Lopdell said that the accused was not a heavy drinker, but could not get accommodation at the home on account of his habits. He was probably in that stage. where he , needed sympathy, but there was no institution to which he could go, and it was necessary that he should be taken in periodically and cleaned- up. , Messrs. W.- H.. Coy and J. Read, J.P.s, who were on the Bench, .sentenced the accused, to one mouth's imprisonment., ■ ;•' ' ; . .. ' . .
