OBITUARY
MR. J. AC. BAYNE
The death occurred at Auckland on Thursday night of Mr. John Archibald Campbell Bayne, chief inspector of coal mines at Wellington, while on an official visit to Auckland. Mr. Bayne took suddenly ill, and died, following an operation.
The late Mr. Bayne, who was in his fiftieth year, was born in Scotland. After a brilliant career at tho Royal Technical College, Glasgow, and tho Glasgow University, he had seven years' practical mining experience in Great Britain. Ho went to India in 1907, and was for four years associated with the metal and coal mining industries there. Mr; Bayne came to Now Zealand in 1911, and was for nine years manager of the Paparoa Coal Company, Greynioutlu In 1923 he was appointed inspecting engineer of mines, and was subsequently promoted to the position of chief inspector of mines. He was a member of the Board of Examiners Tinder the Coal Mines-Act, also a member of the Board of Examiners under the Inspection of Machinery Act.
..The late Mr. Bayne loaves a widow, but no family.
;-Mr. A. H. Kimbell, Under-Secretary for Mines, left for Auckland last evening to attend the funeral, which took place in Auckland to-day.
