SAILORS' FRIEND SOCIETY.
The Sailors' Friend Society's Institute, with its doors open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., lias beeu a welcome resort for the men of the sea during the holidays. On New Year's, Day, according to custom, a full day's picnic was held. Games were organised by lUr. James Moore, missioner, and prizes were sent in for the various events from Wellington and as far as Foxton. The starboard watch beat the port watch -at cricket, and starboard won in the tug o' war against port. Lunch, tea, and supper were served by a band of helpers, led by Mrs. J. Moore. The winners ia the day's sports were Mrs. Morrisby, the Misses Siihes, and Tidey, and Messrs. Macfarlaue, Hood, Lee, MacGregor, Sutherland, Higgins, Heard, Hinkey, Campbell, Douglas, Lenister, Murdock. Franc, Scott, Jluir. The happy group wound up a pleasant day by sinking 'The Doxology," "God Pave'the King," .in.l -AuM La up: Sync."
