GANDHI'S NEXT MOVE
A COVERT DEMAND
WITHDRAWAL OF ORDINANCES
COMPLIANCE UNLIKELY
United Tress Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received 31st December, 9 a.m.) DELHI, 30th December. The latest development in the Indian political situation is a reported move by Mr. Gandhi, asking the Viceroy whether the Ordinances to cope with the disturbed situation in the United Provinces, the North-west Frontier, and Bengal mean "a definite rupture between Congress and the Government.'.' Indirectly, this is actually a Congress demand for the withdrawal of the Ordinances as a condition of cooperation in framing the future Constitution. It is understood that there is no question of the Viceroy discussing the withdrawal of any Ordinances, and if a meeting with Mr.. Gandhi does take place the Congress leader will be told plainly that the Government is only prepared to discuss India's future and not the present ( state of agitation in the country. '
