N.Z. SOCIETY FOR THE DEAF
:- (To the Editor.) Sir,—The campaign to cntabltsh a- Cancer Research. Fund, and the generous publicity given by the. Press are stilj. fresh in memory. 'Efforts, on somewhat similar lines arcs now being niade to relieve deafness which, if not a fatal disease like cancer, is yet a serious menace to the health and welfare of those' who suffer from it. For this purpose a New Zealand Society, for the Deaf has recently been formed. Its specific objects are to foster investigations iritp the causes oJ deafness and means of alleviating it by mechanical and other aids. Certain practical proposals in the latter direction are already, well advanced, and it is confidently, anticipated that when completed they will bring full relief to those who now regard themselves as incurable. The. objects o£ the society are emphatically noncommercial, but a co-operative effort On the part of deaf people to solve their own difficulties. May I be permitted the courtesy of your columns'to appeal to all deaf people to get into touch as early, as possible with the. president of the society, who will furnish fuller information. His address is 40, Hataitai road, Wellington,?—l am, etc. § ' B. NQKRIS.
