NO REPATRIATION
MIGRANTS IN AUSTRALIA BETTER WHERE THEY ARE (Received 9th October, 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, Bth October. In view of the renewed activity in Australia on the part of distressed migrants demanding repatriation, the Australian Press Association i 3 requested to correct the impression that returning migrants are immediately eligible for the dole. It is emphasised that they cannot draw the dole without first securing sufficient employment in an insured trade to qualify for benefit. The officials discourage the new suggestion in Australia that a hundred migrants should go to London to ask the British Government for the bulk repatriation of settlers, pointing out that Australia is likely to recover prosperity before Britain. The approach of winter in Britain also will probably cause the customary seasonal shrinkage in employment. However black the present outlook for distressed emigrants may be, Downing Street opinion is that the future is brighter than if tbey returned to disillusionment in Britain. / ""*—""" ■
