A NEW CHAIRMAN
CHANGE IN THE HOUSE
MR. S. G. SMITH TO BE
RE-APPOINTED
Arrangements are to be made for Mr. S. G-. Smith, Government member for New Plymouth and Minister of Labour in the United Ministry, to resume his old position as Chairman of Committees of the House of Bepresentatives,
A previous move, following the formation of the Coalition, to make this position available to Mr. Smith was embarrassed. by Reform opposition, it being freely reported that the former Official Opposition had in view, the nomination of Mr. J. A. Nash (Palmerston), the former Junior Beform Whip.
It is reliably reported that the differences have now been composed. The present occupant of the position, Mr. W. A. Bodkin (Central Otago), will resign, and at an early date Mr. Smith will be elected to the office.
The appointment to-day of Sir James Parr as a member and Leader of the Legislative Council will preserve the equality of party representation in the offices within the gift of the Government.
