— WESTERLY WEATHER During the last twenty-four hours tho weather as a whole has been mild and pleasant over the greater part of the Dominion, although the. Auckland and Bay of Plenty areas have, had unsettled and showery conditions owing to a feeble cyclone operating to the north of the Bay of Plenty. Isolated places in these two districts had heavy rain yesterday and last night, Opotiki reporting a flooded river. Winds have been generally light and' variable, the predominating direction' being southwest "and west. 'This morning northwesterlies were ruling in and south of Cook Strait, and barometers were falling in southern New Zealand owing to the approach of a westerly depression. At 9 a.m. to-day rain was reported from a few places in Otago. Auckland experienced unsettled weather yesterday, with heavy showers and at times, hail. The total rainfall-was 51 points. The wind in the northern city was a south-westerly. Wellington had another fine and pleasant day with very little wind. It was fine and sunny in Christchurch also, a south-westerly wind changing to the north-east in the course of the afternoon. Dunedin had a fine and bright morning yesterday, but the afternoon was dulL North of New Plymouth and Napier moderate south-westerly winds,, will veer to the west. Elsewhere freshening north-westerly winds may be expected. The weather is forecasted to bo mainly fair in eastern districts, but showers are still probable in the Auckland and Bay of Plenty regions. In western districts from Taranaki southward tho weather is becoming somewhat cloudy and unsettled, and in these districts rain is likoly to develop. Temperatures will continue to be mild.
