TO-DAY'S PROCEEDINGS
APPOINTMENTS MADE
Tho annual conference of tho Baptint Uniou was continued to-day. A number of officers and committees were appointed. The principal oilico to be filled was that of president-elect, particular importance attaching to the appointment; in view of the fact that it carries the presidential honours for the jubilee year (1932). Tho assembly elected the Eev. J. J. North, D.D., by an overwhelming majority.
The following committees were appointed: — Executive: Mr. F. W. Gage (president), Rev. M. W. P. Lascelles (secretary and treasurer), Revs. J. J. North, D.D., J. Hiddlestone, L. B. Busfield, A. W. Stuart, W. E. Lambert, E. S. Tuekwell, J. Carlisle,'H. K. Kempton, E. W. Batts, E, T. Jones, N. R. Wood; Messrs. C. Darracott, S. T. Bar-uet-t, J. R. Carey, F, W. Homer, W, H. Newton, W. A. Knudson, 11. Ivory, E. Nees, H. A. Wright. . - ' College: Messrs. F. N. Andrews, S. Barry, H. Dearsly, H. W. Newton, Revs. J. K. Archer, S. Jenkin, J. W. Kemp, H. K. Kempton, J. Laird, W. S. Rollings. y The members of the following committees were re-appointed: Annuity and Sustentation, Finance, Literature, Military, Young People's Department, Fire Insurance, Self-denial. Tho following appointments were also made:—Manager of "Baptist," Rev. M. W. P. Lascelles; editor, Rev. J. J. North; sub-editor, Rev. S. Jenkin; preacher of Union sermon v Rev. L. J. Boulton Smith; deputy, Rev. O. Allwright; N.Z. Alliance representative, Rev. C. W. Duncumb. INSURANCE FUND. The report of the Fire Insurance Committee was presented. This committee has been at work for only a short while, but already the growth of the fund is most satisfactory, and it is confidently hoped that beforts long the fund will be an important part of the union's finances. RELIGION IN. THE HOME. The Rer. A. Anstice addressed the assembly on the matter of religion in the home. He deplored the fact that the "home altar" had not merely been neglected, but had even been completely lost. A generation had arisen, he said, to whom the idea of worship in the homo wis almost entirely, new. The present conditions -were strained conditions, and the Church must meet tho new conditions with new inspiration. And the secure planting of the real religion in the home itself was one of the niost important departures that could be made to help the world in its present need. He advocated, the establishment of a "Home Department" in the union to prepare.a manual for use in family worship, and to do all that could be accomplished to foster home The matter received considerable attention, and the assembly decided upon immediate action. A committee was set up to take the matter in hand.
