FUNERAL SERVICE A LONG CORTEGE • As befitting the position the late Mr. Isaac Salek, J.P., occupied in the community there was a particularly large attendance at his funeral yesterday afternoon. There were over fifty cars in the cortege, which was fully representative of all the organisation with which the deceased had been associated. The service at the Synagogue was conducted by Rabbi S. Katz, who also officiated at the graveside in conjunction with Mr. H. S. M. Quigley, Grand Master of the New Zealand branch of the Manchester Unity of Oddfellows, j and Mr. H. Seaton, Past Grand Warden j of the New Zealand Pacific Masonic Lodge. The chief mourners were Messrs. L. €alek,.J.P., and Mr. V. Salek, sons of flhe deceased. Potter. v Speaking at; the graveside, Eabbi Katj said tha* the passing of Mr. Salek had earned a (?reat void in the hearts of all tboio who knew him. He had been loved and respected by a wide circle of. friendii in the community. He was a man who did not live to.himself, but extended his', benevolences far and wide, and he ga,WO of himself not only ito'his own community, but in the service of the country as a whole. When he had been ask/ed by the GovernorGeneral to act as » Coroner he had done so, but only on one condition, that there wag to be .no remuneration attached to the woirk. His doctor had forbidden him to *do as much, but he had asked, "What, is life without ser- ; vie«?" He went on still achieving, still pursuing, even until the very end. "Our hearts go out; in grief a*d sympathy to his widow aud children," the preacher said. Tho late Mr. Salek had Been an exemplary companion and lover Us his wife, and an. exemplary father and.example to his.children.
