RAIN MISSES WELLINGTON The two disturbances'responsible for yesterday's mild and dull weather have both proved to be ©i a shallow nature. One low pressure wave has passed away eastward of the South Island, - whilst the cyclone crossed the northern part of the North Island last night, and at the same time rapidly decreased in extent. Scattered rain fell in places yesterday, but last night there was some heavy rain in the North-Island. Rotorua apparently had the' heaviest fall, one of. 241 points. At, Nelson 78 points of rain fell. There was little or no rain, however, between Cock Strait and East Capo or in the southern half of th* -South Island. Fresh northerly, winds ruled yesterday, but by this morning thero was a change in many parts to light southcrlies. At 9 a.m. to-day thor.o was a general improvement over the (weather conditions of yesterday, although' rain was falling in a. few places. Auckland experienced a warm and dull day yesterday, heavy rain, amounting to 68 points, falling at night. In Wellington it was mild, • dull, and threatening, with a fresh northerly wind. A slight trace of rain fell' in the evening. Christchurch bad a warm and dulliday, too, with occasional traces of rain. Yesterday's light north-east-erly wind has now changed to a southwesterly. In Dunediu it was fine and bright all day. Light and variable winds are now forecasted, with south-westerlies to westerlies prevailing. Winds, however, will veer gradually to the north-west again and freshen. Fair to cloudy and mild weather may be expected for the most part, with scattered showers at first in the Bay of Plenty and Auckland districts. Later on there will be a renewal.of unsettled weather-in tho west and She soutk of the South Island. "
