Talented New Zealand Girls. Revisiting the land of their birth .after.an absence of ton years, the Misses Joan and Betty Rayner, formerly of Wellington and Auckland, are guests at the Hotel St. George-. They arrived by the Makuro this week from Sydnßy, and during their absonce have enjoyed a world tour, embracing England, tho United States, and Australia. In Sydnay they'founded a ".Theatre of Youth." They recount many amusing experiences with their caravan, i'or they uro modern troubadours—adventurous, light-hearted exponents of the art of kooping young, Wellington is shortly to have'the opportunity of hearing and seeing tho two talented sisters \n the kind of "niake-believo" enter' tainment that has made them famous in other countries. ' Wellington Kindergartens. Arrangements for tho "Kindergarten Afternoon," to be held next month, were reported at the recent meeting of tho Wellington branch of-the Free Kindergarten Union to be well under way. A group of children will, give a demonstration at tho Masonic Hall, and students' handwork will be displayed. Produce will be sold. Miss Enid Wilson, principal, will leave for Australia at the end of Novembor, and hopes to investigate kindergarten methods there; •It was reported that many gifts had been received by tho kindergartens during the.month, for which the council was very grateful. •;■-■' ■ Next Week's Revue. - ...,', Their Excellencies Lord and Lady Bledisloe and a party from Government House will attend the opening : night of "Joy Unlimited" next Wednesday evening, 14th October, in the Concert Chamber. The revue, which is being produced tty Mr. Pat Ward in aid of the Cancer Campaign funds, will include many novelties of song and dance, andi the very latest iv rcvuo costumes will be seen. The frocks for the ballets have been made free of chargo by the D.1.C.,- and the hats have been given by James Smith's, Ltd. Many new ideas will be featured, and, as thef name signifies, all is to be" "joy unlimited." The ballets are being trained,1 by Mr. David Devitt, and the ballet,trained by Mr. T. R. M'Gregor for thc.Plunkot Ball will also be repeated. Clever and humorous sketches will be performed by Mr. and Mrs. John Duncan, Mr. and Mrs. Pat Ward, Mrs. George Mills, Misses Marjorie Statham, .Jean Webster, Grace Booth, and Messrs. E. Pope and F. Beading. 1 Miss Joan Evans will singr several "catchy" tunes, with a chorus. Mrs. Phillip Cooke and Mr. Boss Gore will give a dance item, and a Maori song by Mrs. <B. B. Wood- will be accompanied by Mr. Ross Gore and Mr. Eric Gore. , .
Some Delightful Mule. -" Special cultivation •of good musical taste- among women is quite as necessary as the ever popular ".uplift" and "conduct of home" talks and lectures, and probably will make for quite as much good, for the art of music is one of the most glorious, in the world, and not always as truly cultivated as some othors. The .women's auxiliary of the Symphony Orchestra seems-to be making its way steadily into, favour, and spreading knowledge and appreciation as it moves on. A great help to tho movement is tho giving of afternoons such as was given by Mrs. M. J. Goodson at her home in Glen road, Kelburn, yesterday. There Madame" do Mauny play-ed to a most appreciative audience 'some excerpts from the works to be performed by the orchestra at tho next concert. The overture from the "Marriage of Figaro" (Mozart) was taken as an example, and descriptive portions .chosen and explained by Madame de ! Mauny. The "Symphony in D Minor" !
