HUTT TOURNEY
QUALIFYING ROUNDS Beautiful spring weather with a light breeze favoured the Hut't Park golf tuurnoy to-day. Tho entries are numerous for the tourney, at which the amateur provincial golf championship, tho Hutt Winter Cup, and the professional provincial championship will bo decided. The course is in very fine order, .although tho greens arc a trifle heavy. The qualifying rounds of the amateur provincial championship are being played to-day. The lowest score of the two rounds will decide the Winter Cup. There was some delay in getting away tho big fi&ld, and all the players did not finish tho first eighteen holes until well after 1 p.m. , The professionals will commence their contest for the provincial professional championship to-morrow. To-day they played a sealed handicap bogey in the morning and a medal round in tho afternoon. The outstanding professional card was that of A. J. Shaw, as follows:— 443444354, 35; 434455444, 37; 72. Shaw was hitting a tremendous ball. At tho tenth his teo shot finished.on the edge of the bunker guarding the green, a 280 yards shot. Crisp and free, with a perfectly timed ' swing, he played faultless golf with the' exception of a missed putt of several feet. J. D. M'lntosh was playing a useful game everywhere except on tho greens, where ho was all at sea. He was out in 40 and back in 39. C. C. Clements was out in 38 and back in 41. F. Branch did a steady 80. J. B. Galloway, with sis 3's in his card, spoilt a good run by picking up his ball at a five bogey hole which ho thought was a four. PROFESSIONAL SEALED BOGEY. The following are tho available results in the professional sealed bogey: —A. J. Shaw, 3 up; C. C. Clements and F. Branch, all square; L. Ross, and J. Mowat, 1 down; J. A. Clements and R. C. Butters, 2 down; J. D. M'lntosh and B. Smith, 3 down; N. H. Fuller, 4 down. Tho scoring among the amateurs was far from low, and it looks us though' the higher 80's will qualify in tho championship. H. K. Adamson's 77, with a seven handicap, gave him a good start in both tho cup and the qualifying rounds. The amateur champion, H. A. Black, broko a club among the stones, and was occasionally in the bunkers, taking 82. _ L. Buist was out in 41 and back, in 39. R. Wagg went out in 38, but tired on the return owing to influenza and took 42. D. O. Whyte went out in 40 and back in 43. J. Gosa's card was 40-39 —79. Several scores are still to come in. .. . .._,".
