POINTS FROM LETTERS

To give some relief from unemployment, "Help the Worker" suggests that carpenters and' handymen should get together and make wooden toys, kitchen requirements, and souvenirs. Some kind person with an empty shop might let them exhibit their wares, and perhaps unemployed girls could do fancywork for display in ' the same window. The writer states that some souvenirs are now made in their spare time by men who are in constant employment, and it would be better to leave such work for those who have no other jobs. "Pro Bono Publico" 'protests against "an annoying morning practice amongst shopkeepers in Jackson street, Petone," which causes pedestrians much inconvenience. "I refer to the sweeping of shop doorways and footpaths in front of the shops without first sprinkling with water. I am sure that this has only, to be brought to the notice of shopkeepers to have this annoyance abated." The writer also suggests that window displays of foods such as vice, sago, dried peas, etc., would be much better if they were changed more frequently.
