WARM WEATHER

RAIN ABOUT

Since the depression to the west of New Zealand has moved very slowly eastward, the fall in barometers over the Dominion has been correspondingly alow. The disturbance, besides being slow in. movement, has apparently also lost in. intensity, and.is now confined to a centre west of the Auckland Peninsula. "Warm and spring-like temperatures havo prevailed with a freshening northerly wind. There has been a gradual increase in cloud, and skies this morning were generally overcast. Since last night rain has fallen in places with a westerly aspect, some heavy falls being recorded on the west coast of the South Island. Arthur's Pass has had 420 points of rain, Greymouth 160, and Westport 110. Auckland had warm and cloudy weather yesterday with a light northerly wind. In Wellington it was flue and mild, although cloudy at times. The northerly wind 'freshened somewhat during the night. Christchurch and Duncdin each experienced a dull day yesterday with a; flresh northeasterly wind. Moderate to strong northerly winds are likely to bo general, and to reach gale force in exposed places in and south of Cook Strait. Winds in far southern districts will soon back to the south, however, and a fairly general change to southerlies may be expected within about 24 hours, but the southerly change is not likely, from present indications to be severe or lasting. Cloudy and unsettled weather will be general, with scattered rain in most districts. Heavy falls of rain are probable about the Auckland Peninsula. Tho weather on the west coast of the South Island may be expected to improve shortly. Temperatures are likely to become somewhat cooler when tho southerly change, shows up.
