Lambert, president of the Baptist Union of New Zealand, arrived this morning by the Maori to attend the annual Baptist Conference, which opens to-day. Mr. H. J. Guthrio, of Dunedin, governor of the Rotary district of NewZealand, commenced his tour of official visits to every Rotary club in the Dominion yesterday, when he attended the weekly luncheon of the luvercargill Club. Mr. Guthrie recently returned from the International Convention of Rotary at Vienna. Dr. J. Hight, Rector of Canterbury. College, who returned to Christchurch recently from a trip to Europe and the United States, is suffering from the effects of a slight accident which he met with on. his arrival in Wellington, and has not yet been able to resume his duties. . ■:: .:: Mr. D. C. Turnbull, agent of the Can- . terbury Steam Ship Company, and ths Federal Steam Navigation Company, at Timaru, returned from a visit to Australia yesterday. The death occurred yesterday at Palmerston North of Mr. Ernest 11. Crabb, who for many years took a keen interest - - iv the public lifo of the city. He serv-".. Ed a long time on the City Council and as chairman of the Reserves Committee played an important part in developing the' beautification policy which has made Palmerston North one of the garden cities of the Dominion. Mr. Crabb also contested the by-election caused by the death of Mr. David Buick, but was defeated by Mr. J. A. Nash, who made his maiden entry into Parliament as a result of his victory. ■
