ROSENEATH ROADS
(To the Editor.) Sii',—Truly the ways of our City Council are difficult to understand. As a result of several letters appearing in your paper regarding the condition of Thane and Palliser roads, a move was made by the council to improve these thoroughfares; in fact, the council decided that the work was so urgent that a considerable quantity of metal was deposited on Palliser road by night, the staff working until about 10.30 p.m., on one occasion in pouring rain on a night that waa not fit | for anyone to be out. This piece of work is now apparently finished, as it has not been touched for some weeks, but the state of the road is now much worse than ever before, at least from the pedestrian's point of view. Mention was made in previous correspondence of the lack of fencing on the above roads. The council obviously realised that this required attention, as a load of fencing posts was, dumped on the roadside about a month ago, and three new posts were actually put in position, but this is as far as the council has decided to go in the meantime, aud the balance of the posts—some thirty or forty—are still left where they were un- ! loaded. While we in Eoseneath are anxious to have our roads made equal at least to country roads, we do not see the necessity to do this at overtime rates, nor do we like to see good material lying around to be broached by anyone who feels so disposed. We certainly think, however, that wo arc entitled to something in the way of a footpath and strong fences to safeguard our children from the dangerous drops thai, are present unprotected.—l am, THANE EOAD.
