(United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received sth October, 2.30 p.m.) PARIS, 4th October. Competing with six other wellknown runners at the Stade Jean Bouin, Jules Ladoumegue beat Paavo Nurmi's mile record by 1 l-ssec. His time was 4min 9 1-5 sec. Keller was cccond. Nurmi's mile record of 4min 10 2-5 sec was made in Finland in 1923. Jules. Ladoumegue, the French runner who won the 1500 metres against England in 3min 53 3-ssec, and later ran the half-mile in a.relay in lmin 54sec, is now an idol in his country. Ladoumegue's fame in France surpasses that of the late Jean Bouin, who was killed in the war. He is groundsman for a Paris sports clubj and no athlete ever had better facilities for training. Ladoumegue was invited to run in half a dozen European capitals in August, but with his eyes on next year's Olympic Games, he intends taking things quietly.
