PRICE OF PETROL

INCREASE ANTICIPATED

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)

CHRISTCHURCH, This Day.

Although no official advice of an increase in the price of petrol has been received by local companies, it is expected that an advance of probably one penny a gallon will take place this week. The adverse exchange rate has had the effect of increasing the landed cost by threepence a gallon. T.he companies have not yet decided what action they will take in regard to this increase, but it is considered certain that if there is any additional taxation it will be passed on to the public. Those engaged in the business fear the imposition of another penny a gallon for ordinary revenue purposes, as distinct from the main highways fund.
