A SHIPS REMAINS
(To the Editor.) Sir,—The correspondence I have noticed recently in your paper tempts me to say that the remains of a veaael called the Retriever may still be seen on- the mud-flats at Fine Island, some nine miles up the YVaitemata Harbour. She was towed there about seven years ago, and despite- reluctance on her part (she tried to escape twice in the first week) there she stayed till all that was useful was stripped out of her, including a great deal of her. upper works and timberiug, which wp.« used in the making of one or two jetties, and the foundations of one or two "baches"—then she ivas burnfed to the waterline. Together with a number of other vessels which had been treated in the same .way, she now helps to disfigure' what was once one. of the prettiest reaches of a beautiful waterway, with a motley collection of "old bones."—l am, etc., LIEF ERICSSON.
