MISHAP TO LINDBERGH

MACHINE OVERTURNED

SHANGHAI, 2nd October.
The Lindbergh amphibian monoplane in taking off from the Yangtse to-day overturned, throwing Colonel Lindbergh, his wife, and a Chinese doctor into the water. All were rescued by a launch from the British aircraft carrier' Hermes. •'.■/■'■■ v> The accident, took place in the vicinity of Hankow. Lindbergh for the past fortnight had been assisting the Nanking Government in aerially surveying tho flooded areas, and was preparing for another survey. In taxi-ing the 'plane dipped, hurling the occupants into the water. Lindbergh hopes to be able to repair the ?plane and continue his world flight. '.■■:'■
