During tho night conditions improved and this morning nearly all parts of tho country weto experiencing brilliantly fino weather with light winds and more pleasant temperatures than tho cold ones which ruled yestcrdny. Auckland hud n strong, squally, westerly wind yesterday with cloudy and hazy conditions. It was a cold, unsettled day at Wellington, a strong southerly wind blowing, with light rain. The weather, however, improved during the night. The total rainfall was 10 points, while Lower Hutt bad 54 points. At Ghristchurch. tho day was a cold one with a south-westerly wind. Tho morning was dull, but during the afternoon conditions cleared. A slight frost was registered there last night. Dunedin experienced finei sunny weather, with but little wind. x The forecast is for light and variable winds, north of New Plymouth and Castlepoint, gradually tending to northerly; elsewhere moderate southerlies prevailing, and later freshening. Tho weather is likely to be flue generally, with rising temperatures; cloud, however, increasing in the western and far southern districts of the Soutli Island, where later rain is likely to develop.
