NOVEL TRAFFIC CONTROL
. Certain, very interesting traflie control experiments have been carried out in Paris recently by the Prefect of Police, M. Chiappe. At a busy crossing a system of control by the ordinary pedestrian has been in operation for the past two months or more. Here, when the pedestrian wishes to cross the road, he presses a button, which switches on a red light on each side of the road, Signalling vehicles to stop. The apparatus is so designed that it can only be operated at intervals ,of 35 seconds, and the signal stops vehicular traffic for 15 seconds, which should be enough to allow the ordinary more, or less ablebodied citizen,to. cross over. The most astonishing thing about the idea, to those who .know Paris traffic, is that it seems to be:a, success. , ■
