Under pefect weather '.conditions and with the roads in good order, the 100 miles; New Zealand amateur- : cycling championship, Dunedin to Balclutha and back, commenced this morning. ' There isa field!of'23 competing. :The limit men were' sent off afr 9.30: -. The bulk of the entries'are-from .the two Dunedin clubs, but there are several from Inyercargill .and Christchiirch, amongst the. latter Grose, the present champion. : . ■ . '.>;■' Blackie. (45 minutes handicap) was tho first at Balclutha, in 2£' hours' riding. ■ ■ ' . ' : Grose, riding brilliantly and having distanced the other scratch men, was 22 mjnu,tes after ,tho leader. / Grose got a puncture just before reaching Milton. He had been making up leeway finely until this. ' Blaekic is still leading. ,
